Everson Poe - Convergence

[Studio Album]
Genre: Art Metal, Experimental, Indie
Released: September 21, 2009
Length ~ 44:01
Publisher: Oh Just Peachy Studios

As Everson Poe, Maxwell Shults has written, performed, produced, recorded and mixed well over 200 songs in the last few years. Originally just a guitar player, Maxwell taught himself how to play a handful of other instruments, as well as how to record on various analog devices, and eventually ProTools.
Defying classification in any one genre, Maxwell’s music is constantly evolving and garnering inspiration from various sources. Always personal but never pretentious, the majority of his work is instrumental. His lyrics are of a dream-like quality, weaving in and out of coherence. Collaborators occasionally lend their voices, or he makes due with his own. His scream is chameleon-like, adapting itself to function within the confines of any given song.
The unusually low female voice that you hear is Der Osnec, who acts as the siren that cries over Maxwell’s piercing screams.

Der Osnec - Justicssus

[Studio Album]
Genre: Alternative, Electronic, Industrial, Indie
Released: July 22, 2009
Length ~ 36:04
Publisher: Oh Just Peachy Studios

Der Osnec is the one woman music making machine. With her unusually low voice and wide vocal range, she has been making all kinds of music ever since she can remember — from acoustic to electronic. Much of her musical education came from her strong musical roots, including extensive training in operatic singing.
Her latest album features songs mixing industrial influences with acoustic and electronic sounds and beats to make expressive and personal music. She has made appearances on a few other projects including film scores and works closely with the band Model M. She has been a fully registered member of ASCAP since 2008.

Scott Walker – Climate Of Hunter

Scott Walker - Climate Of Hunter

[Studio Album]
Genre: Experimental Rock, Art Rock
Released: 1983
Length ~ 31:00
Publisher: Virgin Records

Walker’s only album of the 1980s was both a blow for artistic credibility, and a blow against most of his old fans. The voice of the balladeer was still intact, and still even crooned sometimes. But the arrangements backed brow-furrowing, obtuse lyrics with ’80s-oriented rock that incorporated some quasi-classical structures. Walker was seemingly more interested in painting abstracts in which the textures counted more than the content. This made for an album which may have been a hell of a lot more interesting than ’80s efforts by other ’60s pop stars, but at the same time it was rather impenetrable, and one’s attention tended to drift off over the course of the set. Yet it was not half as radical as the avant-garde direction he would stake out with his next album ten years later, Tilt.

Dead Voices On Air – From Labrador To Madagascar

Dead Voices On Air. From Labrador To Madagascar

[Studio Album]
Genre: Industrial, Dark Ambient, Experimental
Released: 2007
Length ~ 51:54
Publisher: Invisible Records

Mark Spybey is essential to this group, and it is into his musical world that one slowly saunters. Not quite industrial but not quite ambient, Dead Voices On Air is about challenging the listener and inviting him into tackling various sonic landscapes. A song such as “Tongue Like Scree,” for example, has a fuzz or some semblance of feedback set against a primitive percussion beat. Imagine a cross between Primal Scream, Nine Inch Nails and Tom Waits and the ditty becomes a bit clearer. Most of the tracks are quite experimental, like the short and ambient-tinged “Furtive” that is somewhat haunting. But the album rests on a couple of very lengthy pieces beginning with “Labrador” which opens with a rather odd but effective dreamy, hypnotic loop or sample and a string of effects. It could have come off of Pink Floyd’s “Echoes” masterpiece, but doesn’t stray too far from the initial groove. Jungle elements are added to give it a worldly feel. While not boring, it is far from exciting, at times recalling a mediocre Kraftwerk number. “Splay” however, doesn’t come across as strongly, with its quasi-ethereal feeling accompanied by a drone that never grows on the listener. “Halv” sounds as if it’s been spliced in half with portions of words mixed with eerie, monotonous samples and effects. Dead Voices on Air shine during the quirky “Madagascar” despite the occasional, annoying high-pitched tones that are emitted. But this highlight is quickly offset with a tedious “Papa Papa Nesh” that is far too similar to Enigma.

Cyberaktif - Tenebrae Vision

[Studio Album]
Genre: Industrial, Electro-industrial
Released: 1991
Length ~ 46:02
Publisher: Wax Trax! Records

Cyberaktif was a one-time musical collaboration project between Bill Leeb of Front Line Assembly, and cEvin Key and Dwayne R. Goettel of Skinny Puppy. Blixa Bargeld from Einstürzende Neubauten guested on the tracks “Paradiessiets” and “Meltdown”.
During the heyday of Wax Trax! during the early 90’s many fans wrote in saying how good it would be to see what would have happened to Skinny Puppy if Bill had stayed in the band. Wax Trax! paid for the whole project; they paid Leeb, Goettel and Key and gave them use of their studios to produce the album “Tenebrae Vision” and its two singles “Nothing Stays” and “Temper”. Bill went under his Skinny Puppy pseudonym Wilhelm Schroeder. There were no plans for any more albums, and this became even less likely after the death of Dwayne Goettel in 1995.

White Noise – An Electric Storm

White Noise - An Electric Storm

[Studio Album]
Genre: Obscuro, Psychedelic, Experimental Rock
Released: 1969
Length ~ 35:06
Publisher: Island Records

White Noise came into being when David Vorhaus, an American electronics student with a passion for experimental sound and classical music attended a lecture by Delia Derbyshire, a sound scientist at the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop whose claim to fame was writing the original Doctor Who theme tune. With the help of fellow Radiophonic Workshop composer Brian Hodgeson, Vorhaus and Derbyshire hunkered down at Kaleidophon Studios in Camden to pen an album that reconciled pop music with the experimental avant-garde. The result is a set of eerie, delightful songs that, for all their surface simplicity, shimmer with vestigial synthesiser swells, strange echoes, disembodied voices, and distant music-box trills…
